Based in Madison, VA at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, my work is primarily located in the Charlottesville, Staunton, Culpeper, Richmond, Warrenton, and Washington, VA region. I have done major installations at distance and will continue to consider these. I also look forward to jobs in the Raleigh, NC area as my Mom and Brother live there.

I do residential remodels, repairs, and new installations. Since I work independantly, I'm simply not geared for large commercial production work. "Quality not quantity"!

this is the part where I do what I don't like to do .... talk about me so the saying comes to mind...

No brag...just fact

Formally trained and certified by the US Navy in Nuclear Reactor Operation and Maintenance, I looked for something that didn't have the potential health risks of working with that stuff...thus I pursued a number of things over the years and strive to do well at all I undertake. In 1992 Linda and I had a home built in North Carolina and chose tile for the majority of floor coverings and bathrooms. Upon watching the contractor set the tile, and pitching in quite a bit, I found that I enjoyed the satisfaction of "creating" with tile. For the next couple of years, while keeping my "day" job as Maintenance Supervisor at a 5,000 acre private lake community, I did a few tile installations in spare time for Parents and friends.

A few years later, I chanced into the middle of a conversation with a professional tile installer. To make a boring part of the story shorter, he found out I had installed quite a bit of tile. His immediate response was..."Want to help me catch up and make some money?" I answered "yes" and was immediately a "rookie" professional tile installer. And the tile jobs just kept coming. I have worked hard to equip myself with quality tools and the knowledge to use them.

In addition to the broad experience at the resort, I've the good fortune to have worked with friends and one Brother-in-law who are in construction professionally as well as a Brother who is a licensed electrician. I was also deeply involved in the construction of our home in 1992. Through all that, I've gained invaluable experience into all facets of overall home building and remodeling processes.

After 10's of thousands of square feet of tile installed, countless numbers of showers constructed, steam showers, and being in charge of a large number of remodeling projects, I feel that I have acquired a valuable diversity of experience.

  • First, in the materials that are used for a tile installation and home construction and repair in general .... what works best and is the best value.
  • Second, the importance of the preparation work before the 1st tile is set.
  • Third, the ability to see the finished product before the first tile has been set.
  • and Fourth, the ability to work with people.
    - My client to give them what they expect and nothing less.
    - As a tile subcontractor for a General Contractor.
    - Other subcontractors when needed to coordinate the overall project.
    - Suppliers to have the materials there when needed to get the job done.

As for today, although tile installation is hard and physical work, I thoroughly enjoy it. For the most part, I work independently. Honestly, I am "doggone" fussy about how it needs to be done . . . which for you, the homeowner, is a good thing because when the project is finished, it will have been done to the highest standard of quality. I look forward to the challenges each project brings because I know that when it's all done, I've created something that will add to the value of a home and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
